Mikov V2003013 Unhandled Dual Bevel Marking Knife Kit

A marking knife is an invaluable tool that should be in the toolbox of every woodworker. This Dual Bevel Spear Point marking knife, made by Mikov, a world-class Czech knife maker, was commissioned to our specifications. Mikov has been making knives since 1794 and is currently the largest knife maker in the Czech Republic, known for producing high-quality everyday knives using premium materials at affordable prices.

The blade of this marking knife is made from AISI 420 corrosion-resistant stainless steel, hardened and tempered to HRC 57, the same steel used in many of Mikov's kitchen knives. This steel is designed to take and hold a keen edge while resisting corrosion. The blade measures 5-7/8 inches long, 1/2 inch wide, and 0.100 inch thick, with a dual-bevel spear point tip.

The tip is ground to 55 degrees with a 25-degree angle grind on both bevels, precision-ground on CNC machines. This dual-bevel design allows the knife to produce distinct lines equally well on both the right and left side of a part or guide, leaving crisp marks when used with or against the grain, and on end grain.

The knife may require a light stropping to remove a small wire edge, ensuring it is razor-sharp and ready for use. It can be used either unhandled or with wood scales attached to create a handle. If a handle is desired, the kit comes with two brass pins to affix the scales to the blade.
