A marking knife, an essential tool in every woodworker's toolbox, can produce crisp and well-defined marks on wood, crucial for laying out precision joinery or transferring measurements. The scribe lines left by a marking knife can also locate and guide chisels and saws. While many marking knives are available, this Dual Bevel Spear Point marking knife was specially made to our specifications by Mikov, a world-class Czech knife maker.

Mikov, the largest knife maker in the Czech Republic, has been crafting knives since 1794. Known for their high-quality everyday knives made with premium materials at affordable prices, Mikov offers a wide range of pocket, folding, fixed blade, hunting, sport, kitchen, and specialty knives.

The blade of this marking knife is made from AISI 420 corrosion-resistant stainless steel, hardened and tempered to HRC 57. This durable steel, used in many of Mikov's kitchen knives, is designed to take and hold a keen edge while resisting corrosion. The blade measures 1-7/8 inches long, 1/2 inch wide, and 0.030 inch thick, with a dual-bevel spear point tip.

The tip is ground to 55 degrees, with a 25-degree grind on both bevels, precision-ground on CNC machines. This blade design makes it the perfect tool for marking narrow recesses, such as when transferring pins or tails during dovetailing. The dual bevel will create distinct lines on both the right and left sides of a part or guide, leaving crisp marks with or against the grain, and on end grain.

To maintain its razor-sharp edge, the knife may require only light stropping to remove a small wire edge. The handle, made from hand-sanded and polished Mexican Rosewood, is attached to the blade via two brass pins. The 3/8-inch thick handle provides the perfect size for a nimble yet stout marking knife, with a square profile that prevents it from rolling off the bench.
