While the Narex factory has undergone significant modernization over the past century, it still retains many traditional manufacturing methods. Chisels are still produced using old-world drop-forging techniques, which greatly enhance the strength and durability of the steel. The Richter Extra chisels are crafted from the finest materials available and have undergone superior heat treatment, as well as the most stringent manufacturing processes. Richter chisel blades are made from the highest quality Chrome Manganese (Cr-V) steel using traditional drop-forging methods. These blades are then hardened, cryogenically treated, and tempered to achieve a minimal hardness of 62 HRc.

Following the initial hardening process, the chisels undergo cryogenic treatment, where the steel is cooled down to −190° C (-310° F) using liquid nitrogen. This alters the mechanical properties of the steel at the molecular level, greatly increasing its strength, toughness, and wear resistance.

Subsequent fine-grinding and polishing ensure a mirror-like surface with ultra-thin sides, allowing the chisels to reach into very tight spaces, making them the perfect tool for cleaning out dovetails. The backs of the chisels are ground flat to the smallest production tolerances, requiring minimal flattening during initial sharpening. The blades are bevel-ground at 24 degrees.

The ergonomic handles of the Richter Extra chisels are made from domestically and responsibly harvested European Ash, known for its strength, toughness, and attractive grain. These handles are sanded and then receive a friction shellac finish for maximum protection, comfort, and control. Solid stainless-steel ferrules protect the handles from splitting, and leather washers absorb the shock of mallet blows.
