In honor of its centennial, Narex introduced a new series of chisels, bearing the name of their founder, Richter. These chisels are the highest quality Narex has ever produced in its 100-year history. They are crafted from the best available materials, undergo exceptional heat treatment, and are manufactured using the most rigorous processes.
Richter chisel blades are crafted from top-notch Chrome Manganese (Cr-V) steel through traditional drop-forging techniques. The blades are then hardened, cryogenically treated, and tempered to achieve a minimal hardness of 62 HRc. Following the initial hardening, cryogenic treatment is performed, cooling the steel down to −190° C (-310o F) using liquid nitrogen. This changes the mechanical properties of the steel at the molecular level, significantly increasing its strength, toughness, and wear resistance.
Subsequent fine-grinding and polishing guarantee a mirror-like surface with ultra-thin sides, enabling them to reach into very tight spaces, making them an ideal chisel for cleaning out dovetails.
Chisel handles are crafted from locally and responsibly harvested European Ash, known for its strength, toughness, and attractive grain. The ergonomic handles are sanded and receive a friction shellac finish for maximum protection, comfort, and control. Solid stainless-steel ferrules protect the handles from splitting, and leather washers absorb the shock of mallet blows.
The set includes the following sizes: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1 inch.
