Hailing from the small village of Bystrice in the Czech Republic, Narex has been crafting world-class tools for a century. The Narex factory was founded in 1919 by local blacksmith Mr. Vaclav Richter, who commenced producing chisels and gimlets. To this day, Narex remains renowned for manufacturing high-quality, reasonably priced bench chisels. While the Narex factory has undergone significant modernization over the past century, it still retains many traditional manufacturing methods.

Chisels are still produced using time-honored drop-forging techniques, which greatly enhances the strength and durability of the steel. To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Narex developed a new line of Richter Extra Chisels, named after their founder. This line of chisels represents the finest quality Narex has produced in its 100-year history. Crafted from the highest-grade materials, the Richter Extra chisels have undergone superior heat treatment and been manufactured using the most stringent processes.

The Richter chisel blades are made from the finest Chrome Manganese (Cr-V) steel, utilizing traditional drop-forging methods. After being hardened, the blades undergo cryogenic treatment, cooling them to -190°C (-310°F) using liquid nitrogen. This process alters the steel's molecular structure, significantly enhancing its strength, toughness, and wear resistance. The blades are then tempered to achieve a minimum hardness of 62 HRc.

Subsequent fine-grinding and polishing ensure a mirror-like surface with ultra-thin sides, allowing the chisel to reach into the tightest spaces, making it the perfect tool for cleaning out dovetails. The bevel is ground at 24 degrees, providing optimal performance.

The chisel handles are crafted from domestically and responsibly harvested European Ash, known for its strength, toughness, and attractive grain. The ergonomic handles are sanded and then finished with a friction shellac coating for maximum protection, comfort, and control. Solid stainless-steel ferrules protect the handles from splitting, while leather washers absorb the shock of mallet blows.
